GA consultancy

Expert advice for your school, project or organisation

The GA maintains a national register of Consultants to the GA, each of them experts in specialist fields such as subject leadership, curriculum development, assessment, GIS, fieldwork and risk assessment or in raising attainment at GCSE and A level.

They provide a wide range of support and advice to teachers, schools, projects and organisations interested in geography education, such as publishers.

In addition to this, and to complement our successful one-day CPD courses and popular Annual Conference, we also offer an in-school consultancy service specifically for schools. A consultant to the GA can visit your school if you need help with a particular challenge or if you're after some expert geographical advice:

  • Secure judgements - our primary and secondary experts can support you in judging the quality of geography in your school, provide detailed feedback on how to improve and help prepare you for inspection.
  • Tailored CPD on your choice of topic - curriculum development, raising attainment, accurate assessment... tell us what you need help with and we'll do the rest.
  • Cost effective - our consultant will come to you and can work with groups of staff or provide school-wide CPD, reducing school travel expenses and supply cover costs.

Consultants can provide full, half day and twilight sessions targeting a specific issue all the way through to a series of visits based on a structured improvement plan, accompanied by a detailed report containing analysis and recommendations for future development.

Contact Julie Beattie on 0114 296 0088 for an informal chat about our in-school consultancy services, or email us specifying your needs.

Consultants to the GA can be practising teachers, school or subject leaders, inspectors and advisers, Initial Teacher Educators or others. They undertake a huge variety of both paid and unpaid work, through activities such as reviewing curriculum materials, providing talks and presentations on geographical themes or running CPD courses.

Each consultant is required to apply formally to join the GA register, providing evidence of their skills and experience in geography education and in supporting others to develop their practice. All consultants to the GA are vetted by our expert panel.

With around 100 consultants to the GA, working throughout England & Wales and internationally too, we can match a consultant to meet your needs in any aspect of geography education.

Springwell Primary, Hounslow

‘The consultant was knowledgeable and informed about current curriculum change and school protocols and procedures. He had done his homework too; using the school website and Ofsted report to glean further information in order to assist us more immediately so little time was wasted from the off.’
