Morocco: Fieldwork & Cultural Enrichment

We are delighted to be working with Discover Ltd to offer a special study/inspection trip to Morocco visiting Marrakech, Desert Camp and the High Atlas Mountains.

This five-day trip will take place from Monday 29 May - Friday 2 June 2017.

Itinerary

Monday 29 May
Fly to Marrakech and spend one night in a central hotel near to the main square Jmaa-el-Fna.

Tuesday 30 May
Morning - guided tour of the old city Medina.
Afternoon - After lunch a 45 minute drive to the Agafay desert. You will walk with or ride camels to desert camp for a night under the stars. (Option to opt out of the camp and returning to hotel).

Wednesday 31 May
Travel to the mountain village of Imlil, (90 minutes' drive), 1750 metres in altitude in time for lunch. Introductory walk and introduction into the Berber community of Imlil. Overnight stay in Imlil village, looking up to the snow capped peak of Jbel Toubkal (4167m), North Africa's highest mountain.

Thursday 1 June
Choice of a full-day trek with guide, mule support and picnic lunch, a gentle walk or just relax and lunch at Kasbah du Toubkal. Stay overnight in Imlil.

Friday 2 June
Return to Marrakech stopping off at Dar Asni to see the work of Education For All (EFA), an organisation providing the opportunity of a secondary education for girls from the rural High Atlas. Return to Marrakech to visit the Majorelle gardens of Yves Saint Laurent or last minute shopping in the Medina before an evening flight back to the UK.

The trip involves only 5 hours total drive time in 5 days, so you have plenty of time to relax and explore.

Cost

Land only (excluding flights) GA Members £182 (non-members/accompanying adults £363).

Based on twin/double room occupancy, fully inclusive of all meals (first meal is evening meal on day one, last meal is lunch on day five), transportation and accommodation (excludes travel insurance).

Discover Ltd has a limited number of return flights from London Gatwick/Marrakech/London Gatwick with GB airways for £296. Alternatively you can arrange your own flights and meet the tour in Marrakech.

A bursary from the GA’s International Initiatives Fund (GAIFF) is available for an early career teacher to participate in this study visit.
