We are an international school in Manila. Are our students able to compete?
GA Worldwise International Competition
This is the third year of the Geographical Association's international competition designed especially for post 16 geography students. The top four entries in the competition will win places to participate in the International Geography Olympiad 2014 (iGeo) to be held in Krakow from 12-18 August 2014.
GA Worldwise International Competition
This year the topic is linked to the Global Learning Programme of which the GA is part. The project is funded by the Department for International Development to promote awareness and understanding of global issues.
The Worldwise International Competition consists of a decision making activity found on the document to download. Completed answers must be returned to the GA at email@example.com together with the completed cover sheet (Section 1). All entrants must meet the age requirements and are asked to make their geography teacher aware of their application.
Unless we can obtain sponsorship for this event, all participants will be asked to pay for transport and accommodation for the iGeo competition. We expect this to amount to around £800 and as such participants should plan to raise funds through their own sponsored events.
Please read through the resources and instructions and complete Sections one and two.
Your written answer must be no longer than 1000 words and should be completed in Arial size 12 font.
When you are ready to submit, delete the resources pages and email your cover sheet and application to firstname.lastname@example.org. The closing date for entries is Friday 15 November 2013. The winners who will be invited to be part of Team UK in Kyoto will be contacted in late November 2013.
About the International Geography Olympiad
The Olympiad involves teams from more than 30 countries across the world who come together to take part in a range of geographical activities and excursions and to share their culture and friendship. It contains three elements: a written response test, a multimedia test and a fieldwork test.
The official language of the iGeo is English and a country's team will be made up of four secondary school/college students who are aged between 16 and 19 (inclusive) on 30 June. The UK team will be accompanied by two adults who are teacher volunteers with the GA.

GA team success at the 10th International Geography Olympiad (iGeo) Kyoto, Japan, 2013
The 10th International Geography Olympiad (iGeo) was held in Kyoto, Japan, from 30 July to 5 August 2013, in association with the 2013 International Geographical Union Regional Conference. Kyoto is Japan’s World Heritage heart and iGeo participants from all over the world took part in a wonderful event.
Team UK was ranked 12th in the World, which is our highest position ever and we would like to congratulate the whole team especially Edward Clennett and Richard Matousek who both took a silver medal.
No Problem. If your students are UK citizens and meet the age range of 16 - 19 then they are very welcome to enter.
If an entry is not successful, will we still be contacted to be informed or how do we find out? Thanks
Hi Cas, the judges are still deliberating, but I will make sure everyone is contacted whatever the outcome.
Hi, please do you have an update of when entrants will find out if they have been successful or not and will they find out by email or post. Thank you.
Hi there. It's now march and I was just wondering wether you had decided yet? And wether I will still be contacted if I do not win. Thanks
I'll check with the judges this week for you both and get back as soon as possible. Sorry about the delay
Hi, does my school need to be a member of something for me to enter?
Hi Richard, we would like the school, or one of your teachers, to be a member of the Geographical Association. The GA is an educational charity and we don't receive any cash from the government. Everything we do is funded by membership, publications and the training events we put on, so by being a member your school supports our work as well as getting journals and e mail updates with lots of good teaching ideas. Ask your teachers and see what they say. Best of luck!
hello, I am a UK citizen currently studying in Malaysia and was wondering if it is still possible for me to enter?
as long as you fit the other criteria i.e you are a UK citizen and meet the age range of 16 - 19, you are very welcome to enter. Where you live doesn't have any bearing on eligibility. Best of luck!
Do I need to have UK citizienship? I am now student of UK independent school, but I do not have UK citizenship.
You don't need to have citizenship as you qualify by being a secondary school/college student in a UK school aged between 16 and 19 (inclusive) on 30 June. Unfortunately you have missed the deadline for this current year but you can always enter again next year
Any update on this year's (2013) results, please?
Sue or Ricky will be in touch very shortly.
Hi I'm interested in entering next year. When will the next competition title be released?
Hi, I am 19 and a UK citizen, however left school this summer in order to take a gap year. I was just wondering if I'm still eligible to take part in the competition?
Have the entry's for the 2014 IGeo been chosen? If not does everyone get contacted whether they win or not?
The initial judging of entries has taken place and the judges are now deliberating. A decision is expected very shortly. Rest assured that everyone will be contacted whether they win or not.
Out of interest how many entered this year?
