Branch launch

The Derby GA Branch was successfully launched at 17.00 on Wednesday 27th November at the University of Derby. The branch opening was hosted by the branch chair Dawn Fox and the branch was officially opened by Professor Kathryn Mitchel Vice Chancellor of the University of Derby.

The opening lecture was given by Dr Mark Bulling and was entitled: ‘Impacts on patterns of biodiversity and ecosystem processes: from corals in the Indian ocean to mountain forests in Tanzania’. The lecture was well received by an audience of 56 people comprising school students, teachers, under graduate and post graduate students and academic staff. Refreshments were provided at the end of the event giving opportunities for networking.

Don’t promote your city: change it!’ by John Forkin

John Forkin is the Managing Director of Marketing Derby a public private company established to attract inward investment into Derby. John has extensive experience in urban development across the UK, Europe, America and China.

In the lecture John outlined the transformation undertaken by many cities around the world whilst focusing on Derby.

The lecture was very engaging and informative and helped to address ‘changing places’ in the A level curriculum for the students that attended from local schools.
