GA South Derbyshire Branch events take place in Repton school, DE65 6FH

Event report

On Wednesday 26 November, the Repton Geography Society was very lucky to welcome Ben Heason, a gifted motivational speaker and professional explorer who was the lead climber on the first successful expedition up Angel Fall in Venezula.

Repton Geographers, who are soon facing their own vertical climbs in approaching public examinations, welcomed the unique deviation from traditional academic lectures the society holds regularly to Staffordshire University.

Many take heart in looking back to the challenges faced by Mr Heason on the cliff face. Being in the unknown, in which self-determination, self-confidence and ambition are the greatest drivers to anyone’s success.

It was fitting that the lecture ended with a motivational quote from Mahatma Gandhi that was also geographical in nature;

‘The future depends on what you do today.’
