The purpose of Education Group is to advise on and uphold the education policies of the Geographical Association (GA) and support its strategic plans. Within this, there are three specific elements to the work:

• to offer guidance and support in an advisory capacity to the Board of Trustees and executive team on the strategic, operational and policy priorities for the educational work of the GA
• to oversee, set priorities for, and co-ordinate the actions of the various sub-committees of GA volunteers (Phase Committees, Special Interest Groups, Communication Boards, and Working Groups) to enhance the impact of the GA on children and young people studying geography in all settings
• to make and strengthen links with those teaching geography in schools and support the children and young people studying geography.

The EG meets formally three times a year, usually in January, May and September.

Education Group members are all elected or appointed from the GA membership and comprise a Chair, a Vice Chair, GA President, GA Vice President and the chairs of EG’s sub-groups (Phase Committees, Special Interest Groups and Communication Boards). In addition the Education Group invites Ex Officio representatives from relevant bodies to join the group, including the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG).
