GA - getting ready for the curriculum change logoAs more information is released about the upcoming curriculum change it will be important for geography teachers and departments to stay informed and begin thinking ahead to how these changes may shape their curriculum and classroom practice.

An overview of the curriculum change timescale:

  • The DfE will undertake a consultation on their draft programmes of study for KS1, 2 and 3 in geography.
  • In spring 2027 the DfE plans to publish the final programmes of study.
  • The first teaching of the new curriculum will be required from September 2028.
  • Changes to GCSE and A level will follow afterwards.

As the GA has shared its subject expertise with the DfE, we will now work alongside the DfE’s Curriculum Drafter for geography to support teachers in implementing the new National Curriculum.

We will provide support for geography teachers through advice and guidance, CPD, curriculum linked online resources, publications and our wider work.

These will provide invaluable support to primary and secondary geography teachers. The easiest way to keep informed and access our support is to become a GA member – you can join now by clicking here!
