Investigating Coasts

Bottesford Primary School, Leicestershire – Year 5

In this unit of work, Year 5 pupils were introduced to the Lincolnshire coastal town Skegness. Through field visits and classroom activities, the pupils learned about coastal environments, erosion and sea defences.

They also learned about life in a contrasting locality (seaside town vs. land locked Bottesford), tourism, human and physical processes and map skills.

On the following pages class teacher Alison Longden explains the unit of work in more detail, how the pupils found it and her thoughts on the project.
