Violent Earth The Geography

About the unit of work

This project centres on Year 8 ‘Violent Earth’ unit of work, part of the ‘Dangerous Places’ theme which runs through KS3 and KS4. This can be seen on the ‘dartboard’ curriculum model. All Year 8 classes are taught in mixed ability form groups, in some cases with non-specialist geography teachers.

The lessons

The Violent Earth unit consists of five lessons: two lessons on the basics of plate tectonics, followed by a test, a lesson on preparing to survive an earthquake (make a leaflet for homework) and a video-based lesson gathering information to write an imaginative story (completed for homework).
