Primary

Led by Graeme Schofield from Oak National Academy, this session explores Oak’s free, high-quality primary geography curriculum, developed with the Geographical Association, and the research and evidence shaping its design.

It outlines key sequencing decisions, including starting with pupils’ local geography before expanding to regional, national and global contexts, and highlights how diverse places, voices and perspectives are embedded throughout, alongside the use of mapping and fieldwork to develop geographical thinking.

It also considers how Oak’s resources can be adapted for different school contexts, including tailoring materials to local areas and pupil needs, using additional resources to complement lessons, and flexing content to support informed professional decision-making.

Secondary

Led by Graeme Schofield from Oak National Academy, this session explores Oak’s free, high-quality secondary geography curriculum, developed with the Geographical Association and Geography Southwest, and the research and evidence that underpin its design and sequencing across KS3 and KS4.

It highlights how diverse places, voices and perspectives are embedded throughout, alongside the use of digital maps, GIS and fieldwork to strengthen geographical thinking and classroom practice.

The session also considers how Oak can be adapted for different school contexts, including tailoring resources to local areas and pupil needs, using additional materials to complement teaching, and flexing lessons to support informed professional decision-making.
