The benefits of achieving a GA Professional Award

Submissions for the GA Professional Award go through a robust awarding process and teachers benefit from this rigour. Teachers achieving the GA Professional Award will receive a certificate and digital badge which can be used on their social media profile or CV.

Like the GA’s Geography Quality Marks, this prestigious award will be valued by head teachers and senior leaders. Demonstrating that you are a reflective professional and that your evidence of this has been externally accredited by the GA could also be important for career development.

How do I submit for a GA Professional Award?

First, decide on the level of award that you would like to register for. Then register and pay for this level in your GA member portal. You will subsequently receive access to the GA Professional Award workbook where you can present your evidence and supporting reflective commentary against the criteria.

You can submit and pay for an award at any time but there are three moderation deadlines per year. These deadlines are:
• Autumn Term deadline – 1 November
• Spring Term deadline – 1 March
• Summer Term deadline – 1 July
Your submission will be moderated after each deadline and you can expect to hear the outcome approximately one month afterwards.

Please be aware that evidence will be shared with the moderators for assessment. Further support, guidance and exemplification can be found in your GA Professional Award workbook.

Costs

There is no limit to the number of times you can apply for an award. There is a fee, each time, of £20 for a GA Professional Award and £45 to submit for a GA Enhanced Professional Award. Awards are date stamped.
