What is the GA CPD curriculum?

The GA CPD Curriculum aims to identify the knowledge, skills and characteristics that an effective teacher of geography needs and provides a clear direction for professional development. It also supports teachers of geography in navigating the extensive and complex landscape of professional development by providing a range of practical tools and activities, so that support which is of most relevance to their wants and needs, can be better targeted.

Your GA CPD curriculum will give you access to:

• the quality descriptors which provide a description of the knowledge, skills and characteristics that an effective teacher of geography might demonstrate for each of the eight domains
• free professional development tailored to your phase, career stage and starting point as identified by your GA CPD roadmap and covering each of the eight domains
• questions for discussion and reflection which you might want to consider on your own or with others in your school or department
• case studies of good practice
• signposted professional development which is part of the GA’s paid-for CPD programme or other paid-for GA resources
• ideas for how to get involved with the GA ranging from one-off opportunities to those that are deeper and more sustained.

How do I get started with the GA CPD curriculum?

The GA CPD curriculum is part of the GA CPD toolkit. GA members can register for and access their GA CPD toolkit through their member portal.

For the academic year 2024–2025 we are piloting access to the GA CPD toolkit with members who subscribe to Teaching Geography. However, those members who purchase the GA Professional Award or GA Enhanced Professional Award will also be able to access the GA CPD toolkit.
