What is the GA CPD roadmap?

The GA recognises that not all teachers of geography will have the same starting point and therefore will have different professional development journeys along phase or career stage pathways. Eight subject-specific domains have been identified and the roadmap provides a tool to help you self-assess where you start and how you progress within these domains.

The GA CPD roadmap is flexible. You can choose when and how frequently you use it to self-assess your progress. For example, you may use it to self-assess your starting point at the beginning of each academic year, or to identify the progress you have made following a particular professional development experience.

You retain control of your GA CPD roadmap. There are two versions, a download which you can print off and complete or a digital copy. You can choose to share all, some or none of your self-assessment in either version and can specify who you share this with, even if that person is not a member of the GA or does not have access to the GA CPD toolkit.

How do I get started with the GA CPD roadmap?

The GA CPD roadmap is part of the GA CPD toolkit. GA members can register for and access their GA CPD toolkit through their member portal.

For the academic year 2024–2025 we are piloting access to the GA CPD toolkit with members who subscribe to Teaching Geography. However, those members who purchase the GA Professional Award or GA Enhanced Professional Award will also be able to access the GA CPD toolkit.
