Flood Risk – a natural hazard facing many schools

Flood Action Week

The Environment Agency have identified over 6 million British people currently living in areas that are exposed to flood risk. This amounts to roughly 10% of the country’s population.

Over the next 25 years, as a result of climate change, this is set to rise to 8 million people. At that point, one in four English properties will be located in areas of flood risk.

The Environment Agency and Geographical Association are collaborating to raise awareness of Flood Action Week to primary and secondary schools, and jointly publish classroom resources on managing flood risk and share links to the Environment Agency’s Your Environment Your Career virtual work experience and guidance for how schools can assess and manage flood risk.
