Over the last few months, the Geographical Association has been working in partnership with BBC Teach on a couple of projects, designed to provide high-quality resources for geography teachers.
Following a review of BBC Teach video content, Jon Cannell (primary) and Fiona Sherriff (secondary), have created teacher notes to support these resources. These include subject specific vocabulary, suggested activities and points for discussion which wrap around the video content. There are hundreds of videos available, but have a look at the primary Biomes: Key Stage 2 National Curriculum Geography – BBC Teach videos or the secondary videos on Africa – Key Stage 3 Geography – BBC Teach as a starting point.
We are also delighted to have been involved in the creation of teacher notes for BBC Teach’s new resource ‘Planet planners’ which uses the Roblox platform to immerse pupils in geographical decision making How to teach using Planet Planners on Roblox – BBC Teach. Alan Parkinson has worked with the BBC Teach team to deliver these innovative resources and you can read the BBC press release here BBC Children’s and Education launch Planet Planners on Roblox.
Becky Kitchen, Head of Professional Development at the GA, said:
‘It has been a great privilege to work with BBC Teach on both of these projects. The GA has been able to bring its expertise together with outstanding BBC content to create resources which are both useful and relevant for geography teachers. The teacher notes for the videos provide particular support for non-specialists and the Roblox project provides an innovative approach to virtual-world decision making and its consequences, which has the potential to significantly enhance pupils geographical thinking. We hope to develop this partnership with BBC Teach going forward.’
