Well known explorer discovers Blackpool!

Ian Packham, adventurer, lecturer and writer set himself the challenge of travelling around the coast of Africa by public transport: a journey which would take him through 31 countries, cover 25,000 miles and take him 13 months.

Yet he had never been to Blackpool until he talked to the Blackpool Branch of the Geographical Association about his travels. The highlight (or low point) of his epic journey was when he crossed the Congo River from Brazzaville in the Congo to Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, only to be sent back to Brazzaville where he was immediately put back on the ferry to Kinshasa.
