What is it?
Gloucestershire’s local Geographical Association (GA) branch.
Who is it aimed at?
Students; teachers; ECTs; trainees; HE educators; anyone with a passion for/interest in geography, both within and beyond the county of Gloucestershire.
When are events held?
Mostly during the school day or immediately after school.
Where do events take place?
Virtually and in situ (usually at our local Teaching School Hubs [TSHs] or primary and secondary schools within Gloucestershire).
Why should I join?
An opportunity to enhance both your and your pupils’ geographical knowledge, understanding and skills, as well as network with like-minded individuals and share best practice.

Previous events
April 2026 - Geography GIS day at University of Gloucestershire. Pupils said 'I enjoyed the practical session with GIS; after a while, it was easy to understand and quite fun to learn about its use.'
February 2026 - GlosGeog‘s 14 teams from five schools competed in their annual GA WorldWise Quiz. Photo by Abigail Harris. Attendees said 'The students had a very enjoyable evening, commenting that they were surprised by the range of geography covered and they hope to be able to compete again.'(Sir Thomas Rich’s School)
January 2026 - GlosGeog/Met Office/Climate Ambassador‘s climate action planning workshop. Led by Nichole (Nicki) Schantz we focused on five areas in turn: leadership, decarbonisation, biodiversity, climate and education and green careers, adaptation and resilience.
January 2026 - Changing places – Banksy and BLM: Cultural change in Bristol presented by Dr Billy Clayton. Attendees said 'This was a fantastic, inspiring talk about the changing place identity of Bristol. The sections on BLM and intersectionality were particularly interesting'.
December 2025 - Ofsted’s EIF and the Curriculum and Assessment Review (CAR) presentation by Becky Kitchen. Attendees said 'Very informative, geography-specific summary of the new Ofsted EIF and CAR, which is incredibly useful for geography leads'.
December 2025 - Tipping the Amazon – current and future challenges facing the Amazon rainforest by Dr Harry West. Attendees said 'Fantastic delivery; students benefitted from the session; our HOD made several pages of notes!'
November 2025 - Climate action planning session 2 by Nichole (Nicki) Schantz. Attendees said 'Thank you. That was really informative and inspiring to move forward.'
November 2025 - Link between water and carbon cycles, hurricanes and increasing hazards by Dr Chris Spencer. Attendees said 'Just wanted to say thank you again for the session today, our students really enjoyed the talk and will certainly be going into their mock exams next week having benefitted from this!'
November 2025 - CPD workshop: Exploring generative AI in classrooms. Attendees said 'Really refreshing to leave with a practical strategy that can be immediately implemented to support teaching and learning (not just for geography).'
