GA publishes response to Ofsted framework

The GA published its full and final response to Ofsted’s proposed 2019 inspection framework , which pays increased attention to the quality of a school’s curriculum. This is in response to Ofsted’s consultation on its proposals, which closes at 11:45pm on 5 April 2019. The GA’s response brings together the views expressed by its Education Group members, GA strategic partner the Field Studies Council and respondents to its online survey for teachers.

GA Chief Executive Alan Kinder said:

‘The move by Ofsted to place the curriculum at the heart of a new quality of education judgement chimes very well with the GA’s long-established view that teachers and schools must engage energetically with the purposes of geography education and with questions about what to teach as well as how to teach it.  This may help to rebalance the inspection focus away from an over-emphasis on test scores and examination results and provide new opportunities for schools to see geography education as a fundamental part of what it means to become an educated citizen.’
