GA support for geography within the Ofsted Education Inspection Framework 2019

The new Education Inspection Framework (EIF), which came into force at the beginning of September 2019, reflects Her Majesty’s Chief Inspector (HMCI) Amanda Spielman’s determination to focus on what she terms the ‘substance of education’: the curriculum. The EIF brings a renewed emphasis on the subject-specific knowledge and skills acquired by pupils and on progression in subject disciplines.

GA Chief Executive Alan Kinder said:

‘The message to schools must be to continue providing the richest curriculum experience and achieving the best outcomes possible for all their children and young people. I imagine Ofsted’s renewed emphasis on progress in subject disciplines will be welcomed by schools that have thought carefully about the content and structure of their curriculum and engaged critically both with the purposes of education and the question of what to teach.’

As the professional association for teachers of geography, the Geographical Association (GA) is offering schools and teachers a comprehensive range of support for the new EIF.

This includes new website guidance, journal articles, CPD events and publications to help teachers plan, implement and then further develop a high-quality curriculum. As a membership organisation and registered charity, much of this support is offered for free or at very low cost.
