The GA has published a detailed analysis of geography GCSE results for the summer 2024 series. A few headlines from this year include:
In 2024 GCSE examination results returned to pre-Pandemic grading patterns in all three nations.
- UK GCSE outcomes in all subjects were similar to 2023 and slightly higher than 2019
- GCSE geography outcomes were broadly similar to 2023 and to 2019, with 24.9% achieving 7/A, and 65.5% 1/G
- there has been no change in the rank order of the top ten highest entry subjects since 2020. Geography was again ranked sixth, with an entry of 297,411 or 4.8% (5.0% in 2023).
- geography again saw a modest increase in entries (1.4% compared with 4.8% for all subjects)
- the gender balance in geography entries (54M/46F) is unchanged in recent years.
