The annual GA Awards ceremony recognises the achievements of individuals, schools and publishers during the previous year. The 2022 GA Awards were presented at the GA Annual Conference held in Guildford and online.

Award for Excellence in Leading Geography

This award is presented to those articles in each of our journals that have made the greatest contribution to the development of good practice, as decided by a poll on the GA website.

Honorary membership

This is the highest award that the GA makes and recognises the enormous contribution that the recipients have made to the GA and to geography in education. This year the award goes to Iain Palôt.

 

Annual award for excellence

This award is for an individual who has made a significant contribution to furthering geographical knowledge and understanding through education and/or the work of the GA over the previous year. This year the award goes to Elizabeth Rynne.

 

GA Distinguished Service Award

This award is given for distinguished service to the GA through membership of and contribution to the work of its committees and special interest groups. This year the award goes to Mel Norman.

 

GA Outstanding Service Diploma

This award is given for outstanding service to the GA through membership of and contribution to the work of its committees and special interest groups. This year’s awardees are Lesley Burnett,  Tina Horler, Paul Hunt, Rachel Kay and Sebastian Witts.

 

GA Outstanding Service Certificate

This award is given for outstanding service to a GA branch. This year the award goes to Peter Penn.

 

Quality Marks

The GA’s Primary and Secondary Quality Marks exist to recognise quality and progress in geography leadership, curriculum development, teaching and learning.

Physical Geography Photo Competition

This competition offers a chance for secondary students to showcase their photography skills combined with skills in describing and explaining the physical geography they have captured. The theme for 2021 was ‘identifying and capturing evidence of a process in physical geography’ and the winners are:
