Paula has made an outstanding contribution to the activities and reputation of the GA. She is held in great esteem by colleagues within the geography community, honoured for her deep expertise, commitment, and enthusiasm. She richly deserves Honorary GA Membership.
Helen Clarke
Helen has made an outstanding contribution to the GA’s activities and reputation; she has championed geography specialists and subject-specific pedagogies. She is committed to learner-centred enquiries, cross-curricularity, fieldwork and environmental learning, and receives this award for her enthusiasm, passion for geography and boundless energy.
Suzanne Thorne
Suzanne quietly epitomises excellence, from her work within her school to her wider contributions to the community.
She is a fantastic advocate for fieldwork and outdoor learning, is hard-working, diligent and a real asset to the geography community.
She is also a phenomenal Head of Department, opening up lots of opportunities for both staff and students.
Emma Espley
Emma is an excellent representation of what it means to be a Geography Champion. She is passionate about geography in the primary classroom and works tirelessly with the Gloucester branch of the GA, offering in-person and online. She is a shining example of a geography champion!
Hope Nyabienda
Hope spoke at the last GA conference on a decolonising Nigeria case study. She has been very supportive to other decolonising geography teachers by arranging and chairing meetings. She’s a champion for teachers looking to change the curriculum.
Anthony Bennett
Anthony runs the Internet Geography website; he creates lots of free resources for students as well as teachers, which includes ‘geography in the news’ resources. In lockdown he ran regular quizzes for geography teachers. His free revision resources are invaluable to many.
Alan Grey
Alan joined the GA in 1970; he has been a member ever since! Alan is hugely knowledgeable about geography and geology and has motivated and inspired generations of students and fellow geographers over the years. We cannot think of a more deserving recipient for the Distinguished Service award.
Emma Rawlings Smith
Not only is Emma incredibly knowledgeable, she is also incredibly supportive of colleagues, encouraging her peers to advocate in new and different ways for geography education, specifically Initial Teacher Education. Emma’s contributions are varied and significant in helping to create a vibrant and knowledgeable subject community upholding the beliefs and values of the GA.
Katie Richardson
Katie has demonstrated innovative classroom practice by integrating eco-poetry into her teaching of the climate crisis, effectively inspiring students to engage with the affective dimensions of geography. Her use of literature and creative expression has clearly inspired her students, making her a standout teacher in geography.
