Help us support geography teachers to inspire young people through geography

The Geographical Association (GA) believes that geography is for everyone and studying geography enhances peoples’ lives, learning and livelihoods.

We work with over 20,000 primary and secondary teachers each year to help improve their lessons so that more young people can enjoy the benefits of studying geography.

As a charity, the GA is fortunate to have members who have generously supported our work through their memberships, donations and legacies.

We will publicly thank everyone who has made a donation to the GA’s work. However, if you would prefer your donation to be recognised as an anonymous gift, you can let us know during the payment process.

Whatever the level of support, this has provided additional funds that help the GA fulfil our charitable mission to better support teachers and their pupils.

Gifts and Legacies Fund

In 2026 the GA established a Gifts and Legacies Fund into which members can make additional financial donations and/or leave a legacy.

The donations will be invested in a sustainable and ethical fund which will help the GA develop its strategic work in support of geography, teachers and the next generation of geographers.

Where eligible, donations can be made in a tax efficient way. This enables the GA to receive additional funds through Gift Aid and UK higher rate taxpayers can also receive tax relief on a donation.

All donations are reported to the GA’s trustees. We will provide a public acknowledgement of your support, or recognise your gift as an anonymous donation if you prefer.

Projects in need of funding 2026-27

From time to time, the GA will also give members the opportunity to support identified projects.

Over 2026–27 this includes supporting the costs of developing the new versions of Leading Primary Geography and the Handbook of Secondary Geography.

Both books will be published in 2027 and, in advance of their publication, we are inviting members to make a donation towards their costs.

Every member who donates will be recognised in the relevant publication’s acknowledgments (unless you indicate otherwise), and we are pleased to say that a gift from the late Judy Mansell’s estate has contributed to the specific costs of the replacement for the Handbook of Secondary Geography.
