Authored by Dan Whittall, these resources were developed by the GA and the Environment Agency to introduce innovative ways of embedding careers into key stage 3 geography lessons.
They support Gatsby Benchmarks 4 and 5 by connecting curriculum content to careers and employer engagement.
Using the Humber catchment as a case study, students explore river catchments and flood risk management strategies. The Environment Agency’s partnership with Hello Lamp Post enables ‘virtual conversations’ with staff, allowing students to learn about various job roles associated with managing river catchments. This digital approach enhances accessibility both in and out of school, making career exploration engaging and interactive. The resources culminate in students deciding how they would manage a flood incident in a fictional town, immersing students in the specific job roles associated with a flood incident.
