Did you know…
- Extreme weather is becoming the ‘new normal’, with the UK experiencing more frequent and intense extreme weather events due to climate change. This includes hotter summers, wetter winter and more intense rainfall.
- Around 6.3 million homes and businesses and are at risk of flooding in England from rivers, the sea or surface water.
- We know that nearly half of schools (10,710) are at risk of flooding, which is expected to increase to at least 13,662 by the 2050s.
- Flooding can have a devastating impact and this is why protecting people and communities is our top priority. The Environment Agency is working closely with government to deliver £2.65 billion of investment by March 2026 to scale up national resilience through building new and improving existing flood defences.
