This CPD pack was created by Dr Charlene Rose, Robert Lang and Adrian Alexander. It aims to provide ideas for A level geography Non-Exam Assessments and International Baccalaureate Independent investigation fieldwork, focusing on food and highlighting how GIS could be a useful tool for analysis and data visualisation in fieldwork.

The stimuli for this pack is West’s (2021) Teaching Geography article, ‘Taking the first steps towards bringing GIS into the classroom’ (West, 2021) and case study notes and information from ‘Caribbean cuisine and superdiversity in the Ladywood constituency’ (Rose, 2026). This ensures that the CPD is evidence-informed and also that references are explicit so that teachers can take some of the ideas further if they wish.

The article, case study notes and information sheet and can be completed as pre-reading before the session. Activities taking 15 minutes, one hour or half a day are provided via a PowerPoint. Instructions can be found in the notes section of each slide on the PowerPoint and also listed in this pdf.
