These resources are intended for use with A level or early undergraduate students studying geography, history, planning or related subjects.

The booklet introduces students to the idea of community-led planning (CLP), gives an overview of its history, then provides two case studies of CLP in action:

• Sheffield in South Yorkshire, UK
• the Royal Docks in London, UK.

Students are encouraged to think about links the links between these examples and present-day urban change, as well as the relevance of histories of CLP to regeneration and place-making today. They consider questions including:

• Who made this place? Whose interests does it serve? Whose voices are heard?
• How has development, change or regeneration happened?
• Who is the development, change or regeneration for?
• Could regeneration and place-making be done differently?
• What could be the future of this area?

A PowerPoint resource for teachers has been provided to use alongside the booklet. It may be useful to display this to students as they work through the booklet, using the prompts to generate class discussions.

These resources link with ‘Changing place; changing places’ A-level geography modules and may provide stimulus material to help students’ devise independent investigations linked to urban change.
