Nearly half of the 20,000 schools and educational settings in England (10,710) are in areas at risk of flooding, a number expected to increase to at least 13,662 by the 2050s.
To help schools better assess and manage flood risk the Environment Agency and Department for Education have published this new guidance: Checklist assess and manage flood risk in school
It encourages schools to use their post code to check their long-term flood risk, sign up for flood warnings (if available for your school’s location) and Met Office weather warnings and check your school’s insurance cover.
Schools are also encouraged to add flood risk into their emergency plans and consider how they might respond to and recover from a flood incident.
