The GA’s commitment to providing high quality CPD for teachers

The GA is committed to providing high quality CPD specially designed for teachers of geography across all key stage. Below we outline some of the extra support that we have made available as well as ways we’ve adapted our current CPD offering so you can still access everything.

New: CPD packs and webinar

We are excited to launch a new range of CPD packs which are designed for teachers to use with their colleagues. Each pack meets the 2016 Standard for teachers’ professional development (DfE) and contains a range of practical activities which are flexible to both your context, the amount of time that you have available and your department or school’s needs. We will be running a free webinar to introduce the series and to give teachers an opportunity to engage with some of the activities from the CPD pack: What makes a geography lesson ‘good’? This will take place on Wednesday 3 June and we will be running the webinar twice – once between 10am and 11am and again between 4pm and 5pm.

Online CPD modules available for all

Previously our online CPD modules have been member-only – we have recently made these free for all to access until the end of June. There are five courses written by primary and secondary specialists covering a range of geographical themes including global learning, migration and food security. You’ll also receive a certificate after you’ve completed a module to add to your CPD portfolio.

Webinar and eConference recordings now available in the shop

We run a varied programme of webinars throughout the year – including eConference 2020 – but we understand that not everyone can attend these live. All our webinars are recorded and these are now available to purchase from the online shop. You’ll get access to the webinar to watch as many times as you like until the end of the academic year and you can share the recordings with your colleagues and students. There are webinars aimed at teachers and students on topics such as changing places, glaciated landscapes and writing up your NEA. Discounts are available for members.

All of our upcoming courses to the end of this academic year will be running live online giving you the opportunity to ask questions and share ideas and experiences with other teachers. Discounts are available for members as always.
