The GA has added two new key stage 5 Teaching Resources to our library focusing on urban areas, take a look at them here:
Post-industrial urban change in the UK: A Manchester case study – Geographical Association looks at Manchester as a controversial and much-debated model for urban regeneration.
The resources include a guided walk around Manchester to explore the nature of this regeneration, as well as a series of lessons considering Manchester’s history and development.
The resources were developed by Dan Whittall in collaboration with University of Sheffield as part of the Economic and Social Research Council funded ‘Manchester, The Centripetal City’ project (grant number ES/V002597/1: https://sheffield.ac.uk/crafic/research/manchester-centripetal-city).
Spaces of Hope: Community-led planning in London and Sheffield – Geographical Association introduces students to the idea of community-led planning, gives an overview of its history, then provides two case studies of CLP in action: Sheffield in South Yorkshire and the Royal Docks in London.
These resources link with ‘Changing place; changing places’ A level geography modules and may provide stimulus material to help students’ devise independent investigations linked to urban change.
The resources were written by Dan Whittall and published by the Geographical Association in conjunction with the ‘Spaces Of Hope: Peoples’ Plans’ AHRC-funded research project (grant number AH/T00729X/I – see www.peoplesplans.org).
